Undergraduate Opportunities
This page is currently under construction and we need your input! The aim of this page is to provide undergrads interested in geomagnetism and paleomagnetism with a list of internships/summer projects. If you have such a program, please send details to Nicola Richmond and it will be added to this page.

  • Summer student positions with the geomagnetism and planetary magnetism group at NASA.
  • Southern Illinois University has opportunities for research in rock magnetism/magnetic fabrics in the lab of Dr Eric Ferre.
  • University of Helsinki has summer internship opporunities. Positions provide a summer job in the lab and logistics, but salary is not included (needs to be provided by the home institute).
  • University of Minnesota has undergraduate Summer Internships. Since 1997 the Dept. of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities has annually hosted 10-week NSF-funded summer internships for undergraduates. The program has a theme of "Fluids, from Surface to Core". Participants work with individual faculty members and their research groups and are actively involved in a wide spectrum of projects ranging from paleoceanography to deep earth geophysics to environmental magnetism. The program is ideal for students who have completed their sophomore or junior year and who are seeking an in-depth research experience. The program carries a stipend of $4300, and housing and travel funds are provided.
  • University of Rochester has GP undergraduate projects through the REU program in Physics and Astronomy.
